CrimeChhotu gang releases eight kidnapped policemen in Rajanpur

RAJANPUR: The Chhotu Mazari gang on Monday released eight kidnapped policemen, eight days after the dacoits kidnapped them from an island of Rive Indus in Punjab’s Rajanpur district.

Sources said the release of policemen came as a result of secret negotiations between local PMAs and the dacoit gang against which police carried out an operation in the islands.

On Saturday, the bandits had captured three river islands near Kachi Jamal area and taken nine police personnel hostage. One of them had died due to injuries.

Despite the presence of heavy contingents of police and 200 armed tribesmen in the area, the gang with the hostages fled the scene.

The Chhotu gang had demanded the release of three gangsters from police custody, removal of posts from the riverside and withdrawal of cases against them.

There were no details of negotiations available to media to ascertain whether or not the dacoits’ demands were met.
