LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday that the government is working on war footing to overcome energy crisis.

Talking to Chairman Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Syed Raghib Shah who called on him in Lahore on Saturday, he said the economy could only be improved by bringing the energy crisis under control.

The Chairman WAPDA gave a detailed briefing to the chief minister on WAPDA’s performance and the projects that it was planning for the future.

The Chief Minister directed the chairman to take steps to ensure a speedy conclusion of projects undertaken to guarantee smooth and uninterrupted supply of power in the province.

He also directed Chairman WAPDA to devise a coherent strategy to minimise line losses and power theft.

Moreover, he said that the government was also going to utilise alternative sources in energy production along with employing traditional methods.

Earlier‚ Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high level meeting to review the implementation of energy projects in the province.

The meeting also discussed ways to generate energy through bio-gas‚ hydel and other alternative sources.
