ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has passed away at the age of 73.

The UAE government has announced 40 days mourning over his death.

Born in 1948, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan was the second President of the UAE and the 16th Ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Sheikh Khalifa served as the President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi since November 3, 2004.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has expressed deep grief over the sad demise of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.

In a Twitter statement, the prime minister said that the UAE has lost a visionary leader and Pakistan a great friend.

The prime minister said that we send our heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the government and the people of the United Arab Emirates.

“May Allah rest his soul in peace!,” Shahbaz Sharif prayed.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa and all ranks of the Pakistan Army have also expressed heartfelt condolence on the sad demise of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

“Pakistan has lost a great friend. May Allah Almighty bless his soul and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss, Ameen,” the COAS remarked.
