SocialKabul River floods Nowshera, red alert issued

PESHAWAR: Water levels of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kabul River rose beyond normal levels in Nowshera and inundated at least 150 houses situated on its banks, prompting the authorities to issue a red alert warning in the area.

The rise in the water levels made more homes near the riverbanks susceptible to being inundated and the locals began to move to safer areas.

In the Hussain Kheli and Mulla Khel localities of KP’s Nowshera district, the residents of the area had spent the previous night on the rooftops of their inundated houses and began to move out of the affected areas today.

According to a report issued by the Flood Cell Peshawar, Kabul River was in medium flood at Warsak with the water flow there being measured at 93,430 cusecs, while the water flow was 1,302,200 cusecs at Nowshera.

Similarly, Indus River was in low flood at Tarbela with a water flow of 272,500 cusecs, while at Attock, the river was at normal levels with its water flow measured at 1,800,059 cusecs.

Meanwhile, Swat River was at its normal levels at Charsadda with its water flow being measured at 11,662 cusecs. However, the river had flooded in many areas of the Swat valley, damaging the roads and flooding the hotels by the riverbank in Swat’s Fizzagat area.

The report also stated that the water levels of several other rivers were at normal. DAWN
