ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government on Wednesday displayed the Preliminary Model of an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) at the Parliament House in Islamabad.
The prototype of the Electronic Voting Machine was presented by the Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Babar Awan, and the Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Information Faisal Javed Khan.
Briefing the media about the EVM, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said that 36 conditions of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) have been fulfilled in this Model of the EVM.
The information minister said that the EVM will produce quick election results, and the Contesting Candidates will have no reason to level allegations of rigging.
The minister invited the opposition parties including the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to observe the working of the machine placed at the Parliament House, and suggest any improvements.

Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said that EVMs are being used in 20 Countries of the world.
The information minister said that the EVM Model will also be presented before Members of Bar Associations to seek their input.
In his remarks, Dr. Babar Awan said that the EVM will provide a remedy to the cancer of rigging allegations in elections in the Country.
Dr. Babar Awan said that there are five proposed EVM Models; three are being manufactured in Pakistan while two others have been imported. He said that the ECP will finalize the Model of the machine.
The adviser said that under the directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the ECP has been empowered to use EVMs in elections and give the right of vote to the Overseas Pakistanis.
The use of the Electronic Voting Machine was also demonstrated before the representatives of the Parliamentary Reporters Association on the occasion.
