Government of Pakistan609 petrol pumps sealed in Pakistan for selling smuggled oil

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Under the directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan, 609 petrol pumps have been sealed and about 4.5 million litres of Petrol & Diesel have been seized in the campaign against oil smugglers in the Country.

The campaign against oil smuggling led by the Ministry of Interior is continuing unabated and showing significantly good results.

If the sealed petrol pumps do not show valid documentation within seven days of sealing, these will be confiscated by the State under the Customs Act along with all properties of the owners as it would be deemed that these properties were acquired with smuggling proceeds.

Last Tuesday, while briefing the media about decisions taken in the Federal Cabinet meeting, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Syed Shibli Faraz said that a crackdown has started against petrol pumps involved in selling substandard smuggled petrol which poses hazards not only to the environment but also adversely impacts the functionality of the vehicles.

The minister said that 2,090 petrol pumps have been identified across Pakistan that are involved in selling smuggled petrol.

Shibli Faraz said that the sale of smuggled petrol is inflicting a loss of around Rs 180 billion to the national exchequer.
