ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that it is the provinces’ prerogative to decide that the lockdown has to be eased or expanded and the federation has no binding power over them.

In a series of tweets on Wednesday, Dr. Firdous said that all provinces are free and independent in making their decisions, and the 18th amendment guarantees their Constitutional powers.

The Special Assistant said that the Sindh government has the right to take any decision as per the prevailing situation in the province.

On Tuesday after a meeting of the National Coordination Committee (NCC), Prime Minister Imran Khan announced a two-week extension the nationwide lockdown in the wake of growing Cases of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Firdous Ashiq Awan further said that it’s their top priority to protect the people of Pakistan.

Dr. Firdous said that the Centre will continue to play its role in further reinforcing the initiatives taken by the provinces in the fight against the Coronavirus, and turning them into result-oriented.

The Special Assistant said that Imran Khan is the Prime Minister of Pakistan, and he is bent upon ensuring the protection of the people from all provinces.
