SocialPrices of warming clothes surge

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The prices of new and old warming clothes saw an unexpected increase in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi markets due to harshness of weather and increased demand.

During a visit to various markets, it was witnessed that a large number of people were busy in buying second hand clothes and also new ones. They complained that they vendors of second hand cloths were also demanding more prices owing to the rush of buyers.

Tania Anum, a buyer said that the sale of second hand clothes “Lunda” are out of reach of poor due to their exorbitant rates.

She said that the reason of this surge in prices seem to be the entrance of well-off families into the Lunda Section which encouraged vendors to sell the items on higher prices.

Taking advantage of the situation, the shopkeepers have also started demanding higher prices, arguing that they were good in quality as compared to local items. The vendors said that the prices of second hand cloths have increased in the whole sale markets.

Saba Bibi a house wife said that “Lunda will be out of reach of the poor soon as most people depend on second hand clothes”.

She said second hand clothes were in reach of lower middle class and it seems they are also going beyond our affordability.

When asked about the higher rates in Lunda Bazaars, a vendor admitted the fact that prices of warm clothes have gone too high in past five years.

A satisfied customer however said you can still find a quality stuff at an affordable price in Lunda bazaar as compared to local.
