ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi on Tuesday said that Pakistan attaches importance to its relations with Bangladesh and wants to enhance relations in diverse fields.
Talking to the newly appointed High Commissioner of Bangladesh Tarik Ahsan who paid a courtesy call on him, Fatemi stressed the need to overcome current challenges in Pakistan-Bangladesh relations and move forward in accordance with the spirit of Tripartite Agreement of April 1974.
Highlighting the importance of high-level political exchanges, Tariq Fatemi mentioned the meeting of the both Prime Ministers on the sidelines of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Summit in Kathmandu in November 2014.
He said the meeting provided the two leaders an opportunity to review the existing state of bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and international issues.
He said Pakistan was looking forward to the visit of Prime Minister of Bangladesh to Pakistan for the SAARC Summit in November this year.
Such high level contacts will pave the way for further strengthening of bilateral relations, he stressed.
The special assistant assured the High Commissioner of the full cooperation and assistance by the Government of Pakistan to him in his efforts to enhance the bilateral ties.
The High Commissioner said he would endeavor to build on commonalities between the two countries to further strengthen the bilateral relations.
