SocialSindh Health department, World Bank to launch drive for stunt children

KARACHI, Pakistan: The Sindh Health Department in collaboration with World Bank will launch a comprehensive drive in nine districts of the province for the children suffering from stunt growth.

He said that Sindh Health, Finance and other departments concerned will submit proposals to World Bank by next month.

This was decided at a meeting chaired by Health Minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar, said a statement on Tuesday.

It may be noted here that stunt is a medical condition that prevents children from growing and developing properly.

Finance Minister for Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Secretary Health Saeed Ahmed Mangnejo, Secretary Finance Sohail Ahmed Rajput and ACS P&D Aijaz Ahmed Khan also attended the meeting.

The minister lauded the role of World Bank in providing health-care facilities to the people of Sindh. He expressed the hope that World Bank would contribute technical and logistic support for making the proposed drive a success.

It is the best investment to improve the nutrition of mother and children from birth to two years, he said.

He also directed the Secretary Health to form joint monitoring teams of the Health Department and World Bank/USAID to keep an eye on the progress of ongoing projects of the health department.
