AfghanistanAfghan reconciliation process: Quadrilateral group meets again in Kabul

KABUL, Afghanistan: The representatives from Pakistan, Afghanistan, United States and China will meet again in Kabul on Monday to discuss a roadmap for the reconciliation process involving the Afghan government and Taliban.

It will be the second Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) meeting involving the above countries in a bid to revive stalled peace talks with the Taliban as part of Afghan peace and reconciliation process.

The Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry will represent Pakistan at the meeting.

Earlier, the first meeting of the group was held in Islamabad on last Monday in which the participants emphasized the immediate need for direct talks between the Afghan government and Taliban groups in a peace process that aimed to preserve Afghanistan’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The participants underscored the importance of bringing an end to the conflict in Afghanistan that continues to inflict senseless violence on Afghan people and also breeds insecurity throughout the region, said a joint statement issued after the meeting.

The next meeting of QCG is being held a day after at least 14 people were killed and 13 others injured when a suicide bomber struck a gathering of tribal elders at home of Obaiduallah Shinwari, a member of Nangarhar’s provincial council, in Afghan eastern city of Jalalabad.

However, the Taliban denied responsibility for the bombing.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
