LAHORE, Pakistan: Under the National Action Plan, more than 425,000 arms of different categories have been computerized in Punjab during the ongoing special drive launched by the provincial government in January 2015.

Well-placed sources told media in Lahore on Thursday that during the period of 11 months from January to December 2015, government facilitation centre and National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA)’s offices issued computerised licenses to the arms of various category.

All these weapons are of non-prohibited category as only the federal authorities have powers to issue permits of prohibited arms.

Sources stated that December 31 is the last date to apply for computerised license, however, the government is considering to give another chance to the remaining weapon holders as a large number of weapons still were to be computerised.

After the expiry of deadline, government will launch a crackdown against illegal weapons across Punjab and violators will have to face punishments and fine according to the relevant laws, the sources maintained.

This initiative by the government will not only bring the weapons on the record of the concerned government agencies but also will discourage the crimes through illegal arms.
