ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Federal Secretary Communications and National Highway Authority’s Chairman Shahid Ashraf Tarar on Monday said currently over Rs700 billion worth of development projects are underway, aimed at integrating the north of country with its south.

The Chairman expressed these views while addressing the ground-breaking ceremony of Gojra-Shorkot (M-4) Motorway in which Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was the Chief Guest, said a press release issued here.

Shahid Ashraf Tarar said with these highways and motorways the Gawadar Port will get connected with the North of the country besides improving links between east and west.

The NHA Chairman expressed the intention that the total length of motorways in the country will be brought to thrice its current length, i.e. from the present 690 kilometers it will become 2000 kilometers.

He said that Gojra-Shorkot section Motorway was 62 kilometers long and it will be completed in two packages.

The first package is from Gojra to Toba Tek Singh whereas the second is from Toba Tek Sing to Shorkot and the two packages will cost a total of Rs 17 billion, he added.

The Chairman further said that projects under China-Pak Economic Corridor will usher in an era of progress and prosperity, especially to the areas along its Western Route, and it will considerably transform the lives of its people.
