LAHORE, Pakistan: Federal Minister for Trade, Development & Reforms Ahsan Iqbal has said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is one of the biggest projects of the century which has the potential to usher in great economic development and make the country invincible.
He was talking to media after presiding over Pak-China Round Table Conference at a local hotel on Monday.
Ahsan Iqbal said that work on this project was under process and engineers and labourers were busy day and night to complete the task by 2016. He regretted that so far 14 workers have lost their lives in the line of duty.
The Minister said that China was committed to share the fruits of its economical development through China-Pakistan Economic Corridor adding that, “As a nation we all have to protect this project as all the provinces would get equal benefits”.
He clarified that the route of the project has not been changed and was being completed as it was signed in the agreement. He said after CPEC’s completion Pakistan’s economical growth would be linked to China’s progress.
To a question about Opposition Leader in National Assembly Khursheed Shah, he said that Pakistan Peoples Party’s leader has tried to give the impression that Sindh province was being deprived of fruits of the project but in fact so many more projects were being started in Sindh including two Coal Power Projects in Thar which would contribute 2600 MW to national grid by 2018.
He said that a committee has been formed regarding China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and all the political leaders could express their wishes on that platform instead of going to media.
“The country is changing as the situation of law & order, and economics have been improved while corruption has also decreased as Transparency International says”, the minister added.
He said the leadership of democratic powers, military, judiciary and civil society were on same page due to which big successes were being achieved in war against terror.
