PESHAWAR, Pakistan: More than 81 thousands houses were destroyed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a result of strong earthquake which jolted various parts of the country on October 26.

While addressing a press briefing in Peshawar on Thursday, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Major General Asghar Nawaz said that the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province is the most affected area by the earthquake.

The NDMA Chairman said that more than 81 thousands were houses destroyed in earthquake in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that 232 people died while more than 1500 people injured in the province.

Furthermore, he said that 495 schools were destroyed in the earthquake.

On October 26, an earthquake measuring 7.5 at Richter scale struck parts of Pakistan which left nearly 300 people dead and over 2,000 injured.

Meanwhile, relief activities carried out by the NDMA, Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs), Pakistan Army and other relief agencies are continuing in the earthquake hit areas.

The relief agencies have distributed till now 40,846 tents, 45,912 blankets and 27 ton medicine in earthquake hit areas.

Rs127,200,000 among heirs of dead in earthquake distributed

Likewise, Rs127,200,000 have been distributed among heirs of 212 dead in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa till Thursday under Prime Minister Compensation Package.

“We have distributed Rs 127,200,000 among heirs of 212 dead till 3.00 pm today,” the PDMA spokesman said.

The PDMA spokesman said that 232 people had lost their lives in KPK during October 26 powerful earthquake out of whom 212 have been compensated so far, adding the remaining 20 would be compensated soon.

On October 28, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during his visit to Peshawar had announced Rs0.6 million for each dead, Rs100,000 for minor injured and Rs2 lakh for disabled in the earthquake.

The prime minister had also announced Rs0.2 million for each owner of completely destroyed houses while Rs100,000 million each for the partially damaged houses.
