WFP says it requires $51 million for its relief activities for IDPs

ISLAMABAD: The World Food Programme (WFP) has said that it requires $51 million for its relief activities for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of the North Waziristan tribal region until the end of the year.

In an interview, the WFP Pakistan Country Director Ms Castro said that the WFP has provided 15-day food rations to displaced families in Bannu and Lakki Marwat districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The WFP is distributing its standard food basket of wheat flour, pulses, vegetable oil and iodized salt.

Meanwhile, a high level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Nawaz in Islamabad to review relief arrangements for the IDPs, during which the federal minister for states and frontier regions Abdul Qadir Baloch briefed the meeting about the latest situation with regard to influx of the IDPs and relief activities.

The federal minister said that so far 560,000 IDPs of North Waziristan have been registered.

Baloch said that that best possible arrangements have been made to facilitate the affected people. He said that round the clock electricity supply has been ensured and polio drops are also administered in camps.
