Monitoring Desk: Uzbekistan is considering the possibility of participating in the development of hydrocarbon fields in the north of Afghanistan.
This was announced by the director of the Information and Analytical Center for International Relations under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Eldor Aripov, reports Podrobno.uz.
“There are promising oil and gas fields in the north of Afghanistan. Our specialists are studying opportunities to assist Afghan partners in the development of deposits, “Aripov said at the opening of the press center of the high-level international conference “Peace Process, Security Cooperation and Regional Cooperation “to be held on March 26-27.
Aripov stated that Uzbekistan had achieved “powerful, breakthrough results” in relations with its southern neighbor—Afghanistan.
Aripov says Uzbekistan will continue to actively contribute to the peaceful settlement of the Afghan conflict, which, ultimately, will contribute to the development of the entire Central Asian region.
Afghanistan is rich in minerals and hydrocarbon deposits but natural resources could not be exploited due to constant civil war in Afghanistan since 1979. Uzbekistan has expertise in oil and gas fields and can share opportunities of natural resources with its neighbour and Afghanistan can export cheaper gas and oil to developing economy of Uzbekistan.
