SEOUL: The UN is preparing to send 206,800 tons of food aid to North Korea, Yonhap news agency reported.

Aid prepared by the World Food Program (WFP) will be directed to 2.4 million undernourished people – 1.9 million children and 500,000 pregnant women.

   

The budget of the program is $137 million.

A comprehensive assessment conducted by the aid group has found that up to 80 percent of North Korean families are suffering from undernourishment, mainly due to a lack of protein in their diets.
