UK closes its embassy in Libya, moves embassy personnel to Tunisia

TRIPOLI, Libya: As the conflict between the armed groups is escalating in the Libyan capital Tripoli, the United Kingdom has decided to close its embassy there from August 4 and move its embassy personnel to Tunisia.

“Reluctantly, we’ve decided we have to leave and temporarily suspend embassy operations in Libya,” the British ambassador to Libya Michael Aron said on his Twitter account.

“The risk of getting caught in the crossfire is too great,” he further said.

Earlier, the United States, the UN and various European diplomatic missions were forced to leave Libya.
