ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As many as 8,206 foreign and 145,068 local tourists had visited Swat, Gilgit-Baltistan and other tourist spots in the country during July 2014 to June 30, 2015.

An official of Pakistan Tourism Development Authority (PTDC) told media that 3,758 foreign tourists had visited Gilgit-Baltistan 175 Swat valley and 4,273 other picnic spots during the period.

He said that 122 trekking parties consisting of 417 and 19 expedition parties consisting of members 249 had also visited Pakistan.

To a question, he said, PTDC had started repair, maintenance and upgradation of existing motels and facilities to promote tourism activities across the country.

He said that PTDC had also re-opened its restaurant at Daman-e-Koh and launched Pakistan Tourism Friends Club to achieve the set goals.

He said that advertisement on print media and website had been made to invite offers for eight PTDC motels to operate on public-private partnership basis.

He said that PTDC intended to lease-out its properties for up-gradation and renovation of tourist facilities motels, hotel, restaurant and transport through public private partnership.
