It may be mentioned that Political Council of the UzLiDeP has nominated current President Islam Karimov to the post of the President of Uzbekistan. The party submitted necessary documents to the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan and the Commission handed over registration certificate and signature sheets to the party. Currently, the UzLiDeP is collecting signatures in support of the Islam Karimov to the post of the President of Uzbekistan.
“The decision of UzLiDeP to nominate current President as its candidates looks logical because wide-scale reforms in Uzbekistan are conducted under the leadership of Karimov and continuation of such reforms are important to get the results”, said Agha Iqrar Haroon who is a development Observer working mostly in Central Asian countries.
He said economy of Uzbekistan grew five times during independence years (under the leadership of Karimov) and small businesses stakeholders rose twice compared to 2000 and reached over 195,000 units, indicating prosperity coming to Uzbek society and providing more chances to develop a liberal economical base.
Haroon was of the view that tourism sector became driving force of Uzbek economy during the last two decades and Uzbekistan is top destination in central Asia because President Karimov take personal interest in the development of tourism and plays proactive role in UNWTO arena.
