Elections 2013SC dismisses ECP’s plea to extend date for LB polls

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday rejected plea of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for extension in date of local bodies elections across Pakistan as the ongoing delimitation exercise for the LB polls has not been completed by the provinces.

Earlier, the ECP submitted a request in the apex court which sought four months time to conduct local bodies elections in the four provinces of Pakistan.

In its request, the commission took the stance that the exercise of delimitation of constituencies was yet to take place and despite the arrangements made by the provinces a four-month period was required to conduct the local government polls.
