QUETTA: At least six people including four policemen were killed and 58 others injured when a suicide bomber blew him up near a police convoy on Jinnah Road.

Sources said that the suicide attacker tried to target Inspector General of Balochistan Mushtaq Sukhera who was being escorted by a police cavalcade escorting to his residence located at Jinnah Road.

It should be mentioned here that Jinnah Road is lined up with very important buildings and government offices including Commissioner Quetta, Frontier Corps, Chief Minister House, Governor House and the residence of IG.

The bomber, riding a vehicle, blew him up immediately after IGP Mushtaq Sukhera entered his residence. The top police official escaped the blast unhurt. It is pertinent to note here that CCPO Quetta Mir Zubair was also with him on the occasion.

A public rally of Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) was in progress at the time of the attack.

The explosion was followed by intense firing in the area. The sources said at least six rockets were fired in different areas of the city from unidentified directions.

Law-enforcers including police rushed to the blast site and cordoned off the affected area. Rescue teams also arrived on the blast site.

Bodies of the deceased and the injured have been shifted to nearby hospital. The hospital sources said the most of the injured and deceased include personnel of police and ATS.
