PESHAWAR, Pakistan: A US drone strike was carried out in the Shawal tehsil of North Waziristan tribal region on Wednesday that left at least six suspected militants killed and four others injured.
The security sources said that the unmanned aircraft fired two missiles at a house and a vehicle in the Shawal tehsil.
Pakistan has consistently condemned the US drone strikes being carried out in its territory, and demanded an end to these.
“The Government of Pakistan reiterates its well known position that such strikes constitute a violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity and once again demands their immediate cessation,” the Foreign Office said in a statement on January 15, in response to a US drone strike in North Waziristan’s Shawal tehsil conducted on that day.
The drone strikes occur at a time when the Pakistan’s army has already been carrying a full-fledged military operation against the militants in North Waziristan called as ‘Zarb-e-Azb’, as well as in Khyber agency since June last year as a part of efforts to end militancy in the country.
At least 127 militants including foreigners were killed in precise aerial strikes took place in North Waziristan’s Dattakhel tehsil and Khyber agency’s Tirah Valley by the security forces in last three days.
