ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Ministry of Climate Change Friday informed Senate Sub-Committee that no Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal was being constructed in Bundel Island.

The meeting of Senate Sub Committee on Climate Change was held at Parliament House in Islamabad, which was chaired by its convener Senator Samina Abid.

The body was informed that there was no proposal under consideration to construct LNG terminal in Bundel Island in future.

The officials of Ministry of Climate Change submitted the report regarding Inter-Ministerial meeting which was attended by Ministries of Defence, Ports and Shipping, Petroleum, Port Qasim Authority and the department of Environmental Protection Sindh for checking the status of the LNG terminal in Bundel Island and to determine future line of action of the Sub-Committee.

The report said Ministry of Defence has also admitted that no application had been received regarding the construction of LNG terminal.

Pakistan’s first LNG terminal was constructed by Engro Elengy Terminal Private Limited on the basis of BoT at Port Qasim in March 2015, report said.

The convener of the committee Samina Abid said the report should be submitted to Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change which would inform the Senate regarding this issue.

The meeting was attended by Senator Saleem Zia and officials of the Ministry of Climate Change.
