ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Sardar Saidal Khan Nasar were elected as the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Senate on Tuesday.

They were elected unopposed to the coveted slots in the Upper House of the Parliament as no other Candidate had filed nomination papers while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) boycotted the elections for top positions.

Late the Presiding Officer for the first Session of the Senate Ishaq Dar administered the oath to Yusuf Raza Gilani.

Taking the Chair, the Chairman Senate Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani expressed his gratitude to the PPP and the allied parties for reposing confidence in him.

Gilani said that he will be the Chairman of the whole House and his ambition is to build bridges, enable dialogue and provide a space for meaningful and robust discussion. He said that he will not compromise on the dignity of the House.

The Chairman Senate said that the PPP has always preferred the politics of reconciliation and the welfare of the people.

Saidal Khan Nasar also took oath as the Deputy Chairman Senate.

The Chairman Senate Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani administered him the oath.

The Leader of the House Ishaq Dar and Jamiat Ulame-e-Islam Faz (JUI-F) leader Atta-Ur-Rehman felicitated Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on his election as the Chairman Senate.

The House offered fateha for those martyred in recent acts of terrorism.

The House has now been prorogued.
