ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister for Law & Justice Zahid Hamid on Friday told the Senate that non-custom paid vehicles was a serious issue and government was taking steps to resolve it.

He was responding to a Calling Attention Notice of Senator Mian Muhammad Ateeq Shaikh, about plying of non-custom paid vehicles on the roads throughout the country involving huge amount of tax evasion.

The minister said these vehicles come through the porus Pak-Afghan border where patrolling was not enough and added that government was taking steps to address the issue.

He said that 5,1200 vehicles such were registered in one month as per amnesty scheme of the government in 2013.

He said custom authorities get help from law enforcement agencies to control smuggling of such vehicles. He added that government was also taking steps to making law in this regard.
