ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarar said Wednesday that feasibility study was being carried out to establish a cancer hospital in the federal capital.
She said the deserving people were being provided free of cost healthcare which also cover the treatment of cancer under the recently launched Prime Minister’s National Health Programme.
Replying to a question in the Senate, she said the deserving people were being provided free of cost healthcare which also covered the treatment of cancer under the recently launched Prime Minister’s National Health Programme.
The minister also said a dengue fever and swine flue claimed 129 and seven lives over the last years, across the country.
However, she added solid measures had been taken to tackle both disease successfully, saying it was pertinent to mention that Swine Flu had been downgraded to ordinary Influenza A Category by WHO five years ago.
She said the Ministry of NHSRC had been providing support to the provinces through its various programme and departments against these diseases, including provision of Long Lasting Insecticide Nets (LLINs), fogging and spraying facilities, awareness and training sessions for capacity building, workforce development for outbreak response through FELTP/NIH, and provision of free of cost dengue diagnostic facilities and serotyping.
She said support for Influenza, include training of lab and public health staff on case identification, sample collection and transportation/diagnosis and rapid response teams, supplies for samples collection including Viral Transport Medium (VTM) for public and private sector hospitals, free of cost diagnostic facilities at NIH and provincial sentinel laboratories, workforce development for outbreak response through FELTP/NIH.
