MOSCOW/WASHINGTON: Russia has sent SSV-201 intelligence ship Priazovye from its Black Sea fleet to the coast off Syria, aiming at collecting operative information in the region of an escalating conflict, a report said on Monday.

According to the report, Moscow has anxiously been watching Western plans for military action against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

   

The intelligence ship started its voyage to the appointed region of military service in the eastern Mediterranean on Sunday evening, a military source said.

The source said that the crew has the mission of collecting operative information in the region of an escalating conflict.

Meanwhile, the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz along with four destroyers and a cruiser have been ordered to move west in the Arabian Sea toward the Red Sea to help support a US strike on Syria, the official said.

The official said that US military officials have decided to send the Nimitz toward the Red Sea, and possibly the Mediterranean, considering the volatile situation and a looming decision on a Syria strike.
