UN acknowledges Pakistan's contribution towards peace in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The United Nations has acknowledged Pakistan’s important contribution towards peace and stability as well as deeper engagement on issues of trade and economic cooperation with Afghanistan.

The acknowledgment came from the UN special representative for Afghanistan Jan Kubis who met the prime minister’s adviser on foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz and the special assistant to prime minister on foreign affairs Tariq Fatemi in Islamabad on Monday.

The special representative also assured UN’s continued engagement and consultations with Pakistan on all relevant issues including economic development and repatriation of Afghan refugees to their home land.

During the meetings, Jan Kubis was apprised of the adviser’s recent visit to Kabul and talks with the new Afghan leadership,

Jan Kubis was told that Pakistan is engaging with Afghanistan across a broad range of issues including peace and security, trade and economic ties, reconstruction and rehabilitation, and regional cooperation.

They reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for peaceful, united and prosperous Afghanistan.
