ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday ordered recounting in PP-150 Lahore-XIV Lahore over rigging allegations during by-elections.

It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Mian Marghoob Ahmed won the August 28 by-election from PP-150 constituency in Lahore by securing 18,870 votes.

The ECP, today, nullified the results of Returning Officer (RO) and ordered recounting in three days.

On Monday, the ECP took notice of the protest of the PTI against alleged rigging in PP-150 during the recently held by-election and summoned all contesting candidates of the constituency.

The PTI workers continued to protest against alleged rigging and party leaders and workers staged a sit-in outside the Punjab Assembly.

On Saturday, several party leaders and workers were arrested during a police crackdown on their protest camp on Mall Road in Lahore. The police claimed protests could not be held in the area due to the imposition of Section 144.

Later, those arrested were released at the order of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
