ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani on Monday inaugurated the “Martyred Journalists Memorial” at National Press Club (NPC) in Islamabad.

The monument was built in the memory of martyred journalists who lost their lives while performing their duties in various parts of the Country.

While addressing the inauguration ceremony, Raza Rabbani said that inaugural of martyred memorial is commendable. He said that the nations develop by remembering their heroes.

Rabbani said that contribution of journalists for democracy in Pakistan has been critical and important, and would be remembered for all times to come. He said that journalists always stand for restoration of democracy, and protecting the Constitution and the Parliamentary democracy.

The Chairman Senate further said that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) always respects and stands with the journalist community.

“We can do politics only when the federation survives,” he said adding that all the institutions should work within their ambit.

Meanwhile, awards were given to senior journalists Hamid Mir and Saud Sahir for their contributions to journalism.

The President NPC Shakeel Anjum while lauding contributions of Hamid Mir and Saud Sahir said that they have been inspiration for other journalists.

While appreciating the president NPC, Saud Sahir said that Shakeel Anjum would be remembered for his services among journalists.

Saud Sahir said that developing a monument for journalists should have been done decades before but nobody thought about this and only Shakeel Anjum came forward and did a great job. He said that NPC has written a new history for dedication and development.
