Rape cases have shamed India: Narendra Modi

NEW DELHI, India: The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the growing incidents of rape in the country have shamed us and urged parents to take responsibility for the actions of their sons.

In his address at the country’s 68 Independence Day on Friday, the Indian premier asked parents to put the same restrictions on their sons as they put on their daughters.

“Today, when we hear about incidents of rape, our heads hang in shame,” Modi said.

“Every mother and father should keep a tab on their sons and hold them accountable much like the way they put restrictions on girls,” he said.

Modi also urged an end to communal violence and vowed to improve the lives of the nation’s poor.
