Qureshi urges removal of trust deficit between Pakistan and Afghanistan

KABAUL, Pakistan: The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Saturday underscored the need to remove the trust deficit between Pakistan and Afghanistan.


While addressing a joint news conference along with his Chinese Counterpart Wang Yi and the Afghan Counterpart Syed Salahuddin Rabbani after Pakistan-China-Afghanistan trilateral dialogue in Kabul, Qureshi further emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to a peaceful Afghanistan in accordance with the wishes of the Afghan People.

Qureshi said that we all want peace and stability in Afghanistan, adding that Pakistan will benefit the most from the peace and stability of the neighboring Country.

The foreign minister also stressed for a joint strategy to eradicate the menace of terrorism from the region. He noted that only through collective efforts we can wipe out terrorism and achieve the objectives of peace and development.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Pakistan will extend cooperation to bring all the afghan groups to the table of negotiations. However, he added that, it’s up to the Afghans themselves as to how they want to achieve the goal of peace.

In his remarks, the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that both Afghanistan and Pakistan are friends of China, and his Country will extend every possible cooperation to build trust and confidence between the two Countries.

Wang Yi said that China will also assist in establishing connectivity projects including a rail line between Peshawar-Kabul and Kandahar.

The Chinese foreign minister said that the afghan reconciliation process can be taken forward by bringing the Taliban to the table of negotiations.

The Afghan Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani said that Pakistan has an important role for peace in Afghanistan. He said that peace in Afghanistan is vital for peace and security of the entire region.

Salahuddin Rabbani said that eradication of terrorism will pave the way for economic development and job creation.

Pakistan, Afghanistan FMs discuss bilateral ties

Separately, Shah Mahmood Qureshi met his Afghan Counterpart Syed Salahuddin Rabbani in Kabul and discussed the bilateral relations and other issues of mutual interest.

The Afghan foreign minister thanked Shah Mahmood Qureshi for Pakistan’s efforts in the Afghan reconciliation.
