ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday indicted Defence Secretary retired Lt Gen Asif Yasin Malik over his failure to hold local bodies elections in all 43 cantonment boards despite court orders.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing a contempt of court case on Tuesday against Defence Secretary pertaining to local government polls in cantonment boards.

During proceedings, the counsel for the defence secretary informed the apex court that an intra-court appeal had been filed against the indictment, to which the chief justice questioned if a decision had been taken regarding the appeal.
