PoliticsImran Khan welcomes ECP’s scrutiny of PTI’s funding

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan has welcomed the Election of Pakistan’s (ECP) scrutiny of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) funding through donations from Overseas Pakistanis.

In a Twitter statement on Wednesday, the prime minister said that the more our accounts are scrutinized the more factual clarity will emerge for the nation to see how PTI is the only political party with a proper donor base premised on proper political fundraising.

The prime minister also said that he looks forward to seeing similar ECP’s scrutiny on funding of two other major political parties – Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

Imran Khan said that this will allow the nation to see the difference between proper political fundraising and extortion of money from crony capitalists & vested interests in exchange for favours at the nation’s expense.

The Foreign Funding Case against PTI was initiated in 2014, and in March 2018, a Scrutiny Committee was formed to completely scrutinize the PTI Accounts. The Committee took almost four years to present its report to the ECP.

On Tuesday, while talking about the Foreign Funding Case in the ECP in a media briefing in Islamabad, the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said that it is the PTI has an elaborate system of funding and accounting.

The minister demanded of the ECP that a comparison of all political parties should be presented so that people can know which party has a complete record and which one is missing this.
