ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The by-election in the Punjab assembly constituency PP-16 Attock-II will take place on October 6, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced on Monday.
The PP-16 seat fell fallen vacant after the death of provincial Home Minister Colonel (retd) Shuja Khanzada in a suicide attack on August 16.
In a press release issued on Monday, the ECP said that nomination papers can be filed on September 8 and 9. The scrutiny of these nomination papers will be held on September 10 and 11 while appeals against acceptance or rejection of papers will be filed on September 14.
The ECP said that the final list of the candidates will be issued on September 17 and the election will be held on October 6.
More than a dozen people including the Colonel (retd) Shuja Khanzada were killed when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives at the minister’s public office located in village Shadi Khan in Punjab’s Attock district on August 16.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has already announced that they will not field any candidate in Shuja Khanzada’s constituency for the by-election.
Out of respect for shaheed Shuja Khanzada PTI will not put up a candidate for the bye election in his constituency.
