KARACHI: The leader of Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqi on Wednesday asked the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take the notice of the killing of his party’s spokesman Maulana Akbar Saeed Farooqi.
Maulana Akbar Saeed Farooqi was injured on Sunday when he came under fire by unknown gunmen near Safari Park in Karachi’s Gulshan-i-Iqbal area as he was returning from a rally organised by the organisation in Lasbela Chowk. He was shifted to a hospital for treatment where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Talking to media outside the Supreme Court Karachi registry on Wednesday, the ASWJ leader said that the heirs of 300 slain AWSJ workers had not been compensated yet despite SC orders, adding that Sindh government has failed to restore peace in Karachi.
Aurangzeb Farooqi demanded of the government to depoliticize police and launch an indiscriminate action against criminal elements involved in the unrest.
The ASWJ leader also rejected the demand made by Muttahida Qaumi Movement for handing Karachi over to army. He said the demand came from the party which had been the part of government for five years.
