PESHAWR, Pakistan: The Awami National Party (ANP) and Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) have said that Nawaz Sharif should remain as the prime minister as no verdict against him has yet been announced by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Talking to the state-run news agency on Friday, the Central Senior Vice President ANP Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour said that his party is against resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif before the decision of Supreme Court in Panama Paper Case as it would be unwise and unjust to punish someone without giving him opportunity of defense.
The veteran politician after attending crucial meeting of opposition parties called to seek resignation from an elected prime minister, he said that all the parties agreed upon to wait for the final verdict of apex court on the subject matter and let the government to complete its tenure.
Bilour said that four to five points were discussed during course of meeting chaired by opposition leader, Khursheed Shah in the wake of political upheavals generated after the decision of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) against Sharif family.
The ANP leader said that his party could not support personally motivated agenda of certain political entities against the elected government. He said that the prime minister has not been convicted and demanding resignation on the basis of accusation is against the legal system.
Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour declared that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would fight the case till its logical end and would not leave the battle field till his last breath.
It merits a mention here that the coalition partners of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), QWP headed by Aftab Sherpao has also showed distance from the demand of the prime minister’s resignation in the opposition party meeting.
