ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led federal government believes in merit for recruitment and promotions of civil servants.
“The merit is our principle and we are following the policy of merit,” he told the National Assembly while responding to a point raised by the opposition leader Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah regarding favoritism in promotion of senior civil servants.
The prime minister said that they have to do justice with the nation without any discrimination. He said that they never considered the angle of provincialism in these matters.
Sharif said that he has not yet received any detail into recommendations of the promotion board for promotion of civil servants from grade 21 to 22.
Nawaz Sharif assured the House and the leader of the opposition that he will minutely look into the matter and share the matter with Khursheed Shah.
“If there is any injustice, it will be corrected,” the premier said.
The prime minister said that in the past, many people were dropped because of their doubtful integrity and many of them were from Punjab. He said that many things will have to be examined while promoting civil servants at higher level.
Moreover, he said that the current acting Chairman of the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) was appointed as member of the commission by the Pakistan People’s party (PPP) government. He said that the FPSC has also representation from all the provinces.
