Government of PakistanPM Shahbaz Sharif to announce new Solar Energy Policy on August 1

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Power Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan has said that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will announce the new Solar Energy Policy on August 1, 2022.

While addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Thursday, Khurram Dastgir said that the Ministry of Power gave a detailed briefing to the prime Minister on the policy.

The minister said that under the policy, solar plants will be installed alongside thermal plants at seven thermal plant sites in the Country which, he added, will help lower cost of electricity.

Khurram Dastgir said that all government buildings will be shifted on solar power just like the Parliament building which is already working on solar power. He said that tube wells will also be shifted on solar power and in the first phase these will be diesel run tube wells.

Talking about the current situation of loadshedding, he said that our electricity production is more than 3,800 megawatts right now.

The minister said that the Lucky Coal Power Plant has started working after repair and improvement in supply of coal to other coal fired power plants will further reduce loadshedding in the Country.
