ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Prime Minister’s Office has confirmed that it has received the Summary from the Ministry of Defence with a panel of names for the appointment of the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) and the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS).

In a Twitter statement on Wednesday, the Prime Minister’s Office said that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will take a decision on the appointments as per the laid down procedure.

The new appointments will be made as the incumbent Chairman CJCSC Lt General Nadeem Raza is set to retire on November 27, 2022 and the COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa on November 29.

On Tuesday, the Pakistan Army’s General Headquarters (GHQ) forwarded the Summary for selection of the CJCSC and COAS, containing names of six senior most Lieutenant Generals to the Ministry of Defence.



The media reports said that the Summary included names of Lt General Asim Munir, Lt General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Lt General Azhar Abbas, Lt General Numan Mahmud, Lt General Faiz Hameed, and Lt General Muhammad Amir.

The Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif also confirmed that the Summary had been received by the Defence Ministry, saying that the rest of the procedures would be performed soon.
