ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday visited the earthquake affected areas in Mirpur district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

Over two dozen people were killed and around 400 suffered injuries when a 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck various parts of the Country including the AJK on September 24.

During his visit to Mirpur, the prime minister presided over a meeting in which he was given a detailed briefing on the damages caused by the earthquake, relief measures and the strategy for rehabilitation of quake victims.

The meeting was attended by the AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider, the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the Minister for Kashmir Affairs Ali Amin Gandapur and the Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lieutenant General Muhammad Afzal.

Later, the prime minister visited the District Hospital Mirpur and inquired about the health of those injured in the calamity.

While speaking on the occasion, the prime minister said that a package is being prepared for the rehabilitation of earthquake affected people of Azad Kashmir.

The prime minister assured to take immediate and every possible steps for the quake victims.

Imran Khan said that he wanted to visit the quake affected areas at the earliest but he faced delay in his return from the US. He said that he shares and feel the pain of the quake victims.

Earlier on her twitter account, the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said that Prime Minister Imran Khan is among the people today in earthquake-hit Azad Kashmir to keep ointment on their wounds.

Dir Firdous said that the prime minister will be briefed about the ongoing relief and rehabilitation process.

The special assistant said that as per the directive of the prime minister, so far 4,632 family tents, 476 shelter tents, 420 full tents, 6,700 blankets, 4,800 food packets, 800 mosquito nets, 50,000 water bottles, 500 kitchen set, 200 maternity and baby kits, and 200 gas cylinders have been distributed among earthquake victims.

Firdous Ashiq Awan said that all possible assistance will be provided to the AJK government for early rehabilitation of earthquake victims and compensating their damages. She said that they stand by earthquake victims in this need of hour.
