The cordial and best working relationship between the Country’s civil and military setup struck a rift last week when the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced new key postings and appointments in Pakistan army without the consent of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
As per the announcement, Lt General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum was posted as the 25th Director-General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) while Lt General Faiz Hameed was posted as the Corps Commander Peshawar.
However, new postings and appointments didn’t receive a nod from Prime Minister Imran Khan who, according to sources, wanted Lt General Faiz Hameed to continue as the ISI Chief for the next six months especially when Afghanistan’s situation is at a critical juncture.
In addition, the prime minister wasn’t satisfied over the procedure leading to new appointments as being the Chief Executive of the State, he had the authority to pick the new ISI Chief from the names mentioned in the Summary sent to him.
Sources said that the prime minister and the COAS held a detailed meeting at Bani Gala on Monday night over the issue, and it was decided that a new Summary would be forwarded to Imran Khan carrying three names for the post, and he would pick one name exercising his prerogative.
