PakistanPML-N shortlists three candidates for caretaker PM

LAHORE: Opposition leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar said on Wednesday that his party has shortlisted three candidates for the caretaker Prime Minister, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

“The three persons we have finalized are Justice Shakirullah Jan, Justice Nasir Aslam Zahid and Rasool Bux Palijo as consultation with the allies has been completed in this regard,” the Pakistan Muslim League –Nawaz (PML-N) leader said while addressing a press conference.

The PML-N leader said that he will formally inform Prime Minister about these names through a letter on Thursday.

Nisar criticized the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP)-led government for their bid of ‘pre-poll rigging’ in Sindh through former allies.  “How the MQM could be dubbed as opposition as its governor is still serving the government. Under a well thought-out measure the PPP has allotted opposition benches to its allies who enjoyed five years on treasury benches, whereas the government was reluctant to appoint opposition leaders in Sindh and Balochistan assemblies unless their tenure ended,” he said.

The PML-N leader said the ‘genuine opposition’ which according to him includes Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and other parties, is not being consulted by the rulers over the caretaker setup, “which is unacceptable for us and the entire nation.”

The PML-N leader accused the government of trying to “steal” the election process in Sindh and Balochistan.
