ISLAMABAD: Secretary Election Commission Ishtiaq Ahmed said on Tuesday that article 62 and 63 of the Constitution would be fully implemented and any candidate not fulfilling the requirements of these articles will stand disqualified, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

Speaking to media persons, the ECP Secretary said the Supreme Court directives are that the forthcoming general elections should be held in a transparent manner.

Ishtiaq said the ECP and other concerned organizations exercise is that clean and honest people are elected for representation in the parliament. He said a cell has been set up in the Election Commission for scrutinizing nomination papers.

The ECP Secretary said out of 69 fake degree cases 27 have been cleared while 34 cases have been sent to the concerned District Police Officers throughout the country for further action.

The Election Commission Secretary said a four-member committee including a senior official from Higher Education Commission has also been set up on the matter of fake degrees.

Ishtiaq Ahmed further said delimitation of the Constituencies in Sindh province is being carried out on the directives of the Supreme Court.

Later, talking to media at the Election Commission office in Islamabad Secretary ECP said the members of the Commission are visiting Quetta tomorrow to talk to the estranged Baloch leaders and would negotiate to remove their reservations about the elections.

In this connection the members of the Provincial Election Commission are in contact with the Baloch leaders, Ishtiaq said.

The ECP Secretary said Election Commission would fully support the Baloch leaders to join the general election process and in this connection the nation would listen a good news soon.

Members of the Commission will meet all the political leaders including Brahamdagh Bugti and Sardar Akhtar Mengal and persuade them to take part in the elections, he added.

The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
