ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan has expressed heartfelt condolences on the loss of precious lives and injuries to many in a tragic road accident in southern Egypt.

Early on Tuesday, a passenger bus slammed into a parked trailer truck on a highway in Egypt’s southern province of Minya, killing 23 people and injuring at least 30.

“We express deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured,” said a statement issued on Wednesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad.

The statement said that Pakistan stands in solidarity with the fraternal people and government of Egypt in this moment of grief.

The Egyptian authorities said that the truck driver was changing tires on the roadside when the bus crashed into it near the town of Malawi, about 220 kilometers (137 miles) south of Cairo.
