Pakistan denounces suicide blast in Afghanistan’s Jalalabad city

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Office said on Saturday that Pakistan strongly denounces the deadly terrorist attack in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad, saying there is no justification to target the innocent people in blasts.

At least 33 persons were killed while more than 100 others sustained injuries in a suicide blast that took place outside a bank in Jalalabad on Saturday morning.

In a statement, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said that Pakistan itself is the victim of terrorism and it shares the grief and pain of their Afghan brethren.

“Our deepest sympathies and condolences to families of victims. Pakistanis, themselves victims of terrorism, feel the pain of Afghan people,” the spokesperson said.  

The Jalalabad blast occurred when the government staff and military personnel were collecting their salaries from the bank.

“It was a suicide attack,” the Police Chief Fazel Ahmad Sherzad told a news conference. He said that police have yet to determine if the attacker was wearing the explosives or placed them in a car.

“It is early to say what kind of suicide bomber,” Sherzad said.
