A Deceptive Indian Missile Launch, Pakistan at War

OpinionA Deceptive Indian Missile Launch, Pakistan at War

By Matthias Samuel

India claims the missile launch was accidental but many critical factors establish another story for Pakistan.

It is almost confirm by some media reports that the missile was fired from the Ambala garrison, Rafale fighters are stationed at Ambala airbase, without any doubt a stronghold of Indian Air force. In addition, first battery of S-400 is also deployed in this region, making it secure at the best of Indian ability in air defence. So, this accident has a full military mind behind it, any retaliatory strikes by Pakistan would have been neutralised by the counter measures at the top of Indian military capability.

The accidentally launched missile was a Brahmos, a master piece available with Indian Armed Forces, the best to test Pakistan. Another politically well thought factor is that it violated international border. Then the silence over the military hotline speaks a lot, as India did not inform Pakistan immediately to prevent possible escalation. Without any doubt, such beautiful accidents require enormous decorations by military minds.

Against this backdrop, India’s failure to satisfy Pakistan and international community over this missile launch is worrisome. The question arises what make Indian strategic planners to resort to such a beautiful accidental launch of a missile? Let’s get its political answers leaving the tactical military objectives aside.

Some media reports suggest that Pakistan and India are engaged in backdoor negotiations, so, this incident could be a mean to increase India’s weightage in those discussions. Perhaps, further appeasement of India under BJP would be the worst option for Pakistan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is very aggressive and consistent regarding BJP’s anti-Pakistan agenda, and we should take a serious note. If this missile launch was a test, then a real Indian missile strike may be in making. Perhaps, Pakistan has only one edge over India and it could not afford degradation in its offensive capabilities against India. Indeed, by a convincing defeat over India in a limited war would raise Pakistan’s stature manifold in the world.

The first achievement of a military victory over India for Pakistan will be realignment of Arab countries in its favour, and in terms of international relations, it would have a domino affect.

Finally, the so called accidental launch of a strategic weapon by India foretells that an opportunity to alter the diplomatic and strategic scenario regarding India will knock on Pakistan’s door very soon. Let’s be ready for it.
