CHAMAN, Pakistan: Once again Balochistan’s Chaman area was hit by a blast on Monday which resulted in martyrdom of a District Police Officer (DPO) and injuries to over 12 others.

The blast took place on Boghra Road near the Levies Headquarter Office at Chaman area of Killa Abdullah district in Balochistan.

The DPO Chaman Sajid Khan Mohmand and other police officials among over 12 persons received injuries in the blast and were rushed to the Civil Hospital Chaman for medical treatment but in the meantime, the DPO succumbed to his injuries.

Following the blast, law enforcement agencies (LEAs) personnel cordoned off the area whereas emergency was imposed in various government hospitals.

Police sources said that it was a suicide attack which targeted the vehicle of DPO Chaman Sajid Khan Mohmand on Boghra Road.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned terrorist attack on police convoy in Chaman in which DPO Chaman embraced martyrdom.

In a statement, the prime minister expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the attack. He prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls and grant of courage to the bereaved families to bear this irreparable loss.

The prime minister directed for best possible medical treatment for those injured in the attack and prayed for their swift recovery.

The Federal Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan also strongly condemned the Chaman blast, and sought the report of the incident.

The interior minister also expressed sympathies with the affected families and prayed for early recovery of the injured.

Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
